Braintree Pride in Neighbourhood: free support on 26 October
A conversation about missed recycling, a housing concern or an untidy patch of neighbourhood is at the centre of Braintree’s next Pride in Neighbourhood event. The free community outreach event takes place on 26 October 2026 in Braintree and the surrounding area, is open to the public and is aimed at local residents.
Braintree District Council and its partners will work with residents and community groups to identify local issues, offer advice and help people access support. The event forms part of a monthly programme that has been extended through autumn and winter, with Pride in Neighbourhood days continuing until March 2027.
The council confirmed the next event in its notice published on 1 October. Alongside the outreach programme, it is putting a further £100,000 into Pride in Place work to increase the resources available for minor maintenance and neighbourhood improvements.
Waste, housing and support services on the agenda
Pride in Neighbourhood days bring several strands of local support together. The programme provides advice on waste recycling and collection services, littering and environmental concerns, alongside housing advice and domestic abuse support services.
For residents, that gives the event a wider purpose than discussing street cleaning alone. Someone with a question about collection services and someone looking for housing guidance both fall within the outreach programme’s stated scope. The council also describes supporting vulnerable people as part of the work.
Community groups and residents help identify issues that can be tackled quickly. That local involvement connects the advice offered during outreach days with the condition of the surrounding neighbourhood, including concerns about litter and tidiness.
The monthly events began in April 2026. According to the council, they have received positive community feedback and strong engagement from partners including the NHS and Essex Police. The notice does not identify which individual partners will attend the October event.
Extra funding supports neighbourhood maintenance
The additional £100,000 follows an initial £100,000 allocation in the council’s 2026/27 budget. The increased investment supports Pride in Place work for 12 months from October 2026, with the Operations team leading activities that complement existing Street Scene functions.
The planned work includes cutting back overgrown vegetation, removing weeds from highway kerb lines and cleaning street signs. Minor footpath repairs, repairs to street furniture and painting approved public realm assets are also within the programme.
Through the colder months, the team can support winter maintenance, including localised gritting where appropriate. Clearing accident debris and helping community groups with planting, litter-picking, cleaning and local tidiness are further planned activities.
These are district-wide work priorities, rather than a promised list of jobs for the 26 October event. The outreach days provide an opportunity to identify local concerns, while the wider maintenance programme supplies additional resources for place improvement work.
Councillor Peter Schwier, Cabinet Member for Operations and Pride in Place, said the increased investment would allow more minor maintenance and improvement activities beyond the council’s core functions.
Planning for the 26 October outreach event
Residents interested in waste services, housing guidance, support services or neighbourhood environmental concerns are the intended audience for the next event. Community groups are also part of the programme’s work to identify issues and support local improvements.
The confirmed arrangements are 26 October, Braintree and the surrounding area, free and open to the public.
